About

What is compassionate dog grooming?

What is compassionate dog grooming

Compassionate grooming, to me, is all about kindness, patience, and truly listening to each dog.

Every dog that comes to me is an individual, with their own personality, past experiences, and comfort levels, and I always take the time to work in a way that feels right for them.

I aim to create a calm, gentle space where dogs feel safe and cared for. Sometimes that means slowing things down, taking breaks, or adjusting the groom to suit what they can handle that day. I move at your dog’s pace, handle them with respect, and for me, it’s never just about the end result, it’s about how the dog feels throughout the entire experience.

I know your dog is family, and trusting someone else with their care isn’t always easy. That’s why I’m here for you, too, listening to your concerns, keeping communication open, and supporting you with care you can truly feel good about.

More than anything, I want every dog to leave not only looking their best, but feeling relaxed, reassured, and happy and for grooming to become something they’re comfortable with, rather than something they fear.

My mission is to make grooming a kinder experience through mindful handling, respectful care, and a calm, low-stress approach that supports dogs and the people who love them.

Why I do things differently

I’ve always been drawn to dogs, especially the ones who feel a little unsure or overwhelmed. Early on, I saw how often grooming could be a scary experience for them, and how easily their stress was overlooked. I knew there had to be a kinder way to care for dogs during such a vulnerable moment.

Starting this business came from a deep desire to slow things down and do grooming differently. I wanted to create a space where dogs are handled with patience and respect, and where their comfort truly matters. A place where owners don’t have to wonder how their dog was treated once they walked away.

What I love most is earning a dog’s trust over time and seeing them feel safer with each visit. Supporting owners, easing their worries, and caring for dogs with intention is what makes this work so meaningful to me.

Lorna says..

“I believe grooming should feel safe, respectful, and as low-stress as possible.

My approach is rooted in mindful, gentle handling, always paying close attention to how each dog is feeling. I move at their pace, take breaks when needed, and adjust each groom to support comfort and trust.

My goal is for dogs to feel cared for and for owners to feel confident and supported.

Your dog’s well-being always comes first, even if that means slowing down or changing the plan. Patience, respect, and open communication guide everything I do.”

A calm grooming space

“Lorna ensures all dogs are happy, comfortable & have the best experience possible.”

I first started visiting Lorna several years ago with my old girl Hollie. Hollie had spondylitis & a deformity in her vertebrae which meant she had to be managed very carefully & couldn’t stand in one position for very long, this also meant that I needed to stay with her & had struggled to find a groomer that was happy for me to stay.

Lorna was absolutely fantastic with her, she would put comfy mats on the table meaning there was less pressure on Hollie’s legs while she was standing & when Hollie needed to move or sit down Lorna just let her & groomed what she could while giving Hollie a break. She used lick mats stuck on the wall to help Hollie keep focused & happy while doing some of the tricky bits. Lorna was never in a rush to groom her & always made sure Hollie was as comfortable as possible & happy to be there.

Lorna also grooms Kensi, who is slightly nervous when it comes to being groomed & again for Lorna it’s all about making sure Kensi gets the best positive experience possible. She is not forced to stand in any one position & Lorna is happy to give her a break if she needs it & then start again. I have even sat on the floor myself with Kensi on me while she cuts her hair in between her pads because that’s where she is comfortable & happy.

There is no one way with Lorna, she will work in whatever way suits your dog to ensure they are happy, comfortable & have the best experience possible.

Thank you, Lorna.

A little bit about me

When I’m not grooming, I’m usually out walking my two dogs, Jess and Lupin. Jess is my 12-year-old golden oldie with the spirit of a puppy, while Lupin is a very intense, very beautiful, extremely cuddly 10-year-old Border Collie who often looks like he’s staring straight into your soul. They both love trips to the enclosed doggy paddock, ideal for serious sniffing, ball chasing, and general joy.

When I’m not covered in dog hair, you’ll find me reading, swimming, listening to comedy podcasts, or enjoying a good sing-song.

I absolutely adore musical theatre, and there’s a good chance a show tune is stuck in my head while I’m working. A mix of calm, care, and a bit of fun is what keeps me grounded, and it’s the same energy I bring to every dog I work with.
