Meet Lorna, your dog’s new favourite person!

Hi, I’m Lorna, the groomer behind Paws in Harmony, offering mindful, holistic, low-stress dog grooming in Shifnal and the wider Telford area, Shropshire. I created Paws in Harmony because I saw too many dogs finding grooming overwhelming, and too many owners feeling guilty or worried about it. I believe grooming should feel calm, respectful and safe, not rushed or forced.

I’m a qualified Level 3 Groomer and a qualified Holistic Groomer, working from a home salon in Shifnal, Shropshire.

I take the time to build trust, work at each dog’s pace, and support owners with honesty and reassurance so grooming becomes something your dog feels comfortable with, and you can feel good about too.

Hollie had spondylitis & a deformity in her vertebrae which meant she had to be managed very carefully & couldn’t stand in one position for very long, this also meant that I needed to stay with her & had struggled to find a groomer that was happy for me to stay. Lorna was absolutely fantastic with her, she would put comfy mats on the table meaning there was less pressure on Hollie’s legs while she was standing & when Hollie needed to move or sit down Lorna just let her & groomed what she could while giving Hollie a break.  She used lick mats stuck on the wall to help Hollie keep focused & happy while doing some of the tricky bits.  Lorna was never in a rush to groom her & always made sure Hollie was as comfortable as possible & happy to be there. Lorna also grooms Kensi, who is slightly nervous when it comes to being groomed & again for Lorna it’s all about making sure Kensi gets the best positive experience possible.  She is not forced to stand in any one position & Lorna is happy to give her a break if she needs it & then start again.  I have even sat on the floor myself with Kensi on me while she cuts her hair in between her pads because that’s where she is comfortable & happy.  There is no one way with Lorna, she will work in whatever way suits your dog to ensure they are happy, comfortable & have the best experience possible. Thank you, Lorna.

Lorna fit me in for an emergency flea bath on our new foster boy, who came to us on Tuesday riddled with fleas. Although not her usual routine, as he was clearly nervous, in order to ease his itching/soreness she took great care in trying to get rid of as many of the little nasties as she could. The sprats & liver paste he got treated to along the way were certainly enjoyed! (By the dog that is!) In doing all of this, she had to rejig tomorrows diary at short notice to make sure that the salon is clean & safe for others. This was done without hesitation. She was super patient & her gentle methods were certainly clear & appreciated. Thank you again Lorna!!

She will let you stay with her for the first time your dog is groomed, so you can see how she works and how your dog reacts on the table, I would recommend to all.

Yes, absolutely, and you’re actively encouraged to. Paws in Harmony is built around a partnership between the guardian and the dog.

You’re welcome to stay for all or part of the groom, bring your dog’s favourite treats or toy, and ask questions throughout. Many owners find it reassuring, and so do their dogs.

My dog has had bad experiences at groomers before. Can you still help?

This is exactly who Lorna works with most. If your dog shakes at the salon door, has been refused by other groomers, or comes home stressed and shut down, that’s not a behaviour problem; it’s a communication one.

Everything at Paws in Harmony is built around going at your dog’s pace, with no force and no rushing.

What is holistic grooming?

Holistic grooming looks at the whole dog, not just how they look at the end. It means paying attention to how your dog is feeling throughout the groom, adapting the session to what they need that day, and prioritising their emotional wellbeing alongside their physical care.

Lorna is a qualified Holistic Groomer as well as a qualified Level 3 Groomer.

Do you do breed-specific cuts?

Lorna adapts every groom to suit the individual dog rather than working to a breed template. The goal is a happy, comfortable dog, not a showpiece.

If you’d like to discuss a particular style, just ask, and Lorna will be honest about what’s realistic and right for your dog.
